Two Inclusive Digital Model (IDMODEL) project policy briefs

The IDMODEL project has recently published two policy briefs that examine the impact of the Haate Haat (Hand2Hand) App, developed by the project, on the lives of marginalised people in Bangladesh.Issue 2,‘The role of digital technology in marginalised communities during the Covid-19 pandemic’, can be downloaded here. TMCD launches social venture, OxValue.AI at the International Investment Forum

OxValue.AI, is a social enterprise that offers a new approach to make technology pricing objective, affordable and accessible to all those who need it. OxValue was launched at the prestigious International Investment and Innovation Forum on 25th June 2021.It will provide a free service to low-income countries, support SME’s, with a particular aim to facilitate the dissemination of technologies to countries in the global south. It  will also donate scholarships to the TMCD centre in ODID.OxValue.AI utilises the Valuation of Early-Stage Technology (VEST) Tool, developed by Professor Xiaolan Fu of  TMCD. 

Prof Xiaolan Fu, appointed fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (ACSS), wins Falling Walls Science Breakthrough award

Professor Xiaolan Fu was recently conferred the prestigious award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (ACSS) and selected as a winner of the Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of the Year 2021. A paper published by TMCD researchers including Professor Xiaolan Fu, Dr Shaomeng Li, Professor Zhongjuan Sun, Professor Jizhen Li and Micheal Kitson also received the best paper award in the ‘Corporate and start-up collaboration’ track at the 2021 R&D Management Annual Conference. The paper was titled ‘Strategy Configuration for Innovation: The Role of Portfolio and Density of Collaboration and Acquisition’.

Innovation and Catch-up in Platform Economy (ICPE) project

The Innovation and Catch-up in Platform Economy (ICPE) project, launched in 2021 is progressing well. A detailed questionnaire was recently developed based on the research framework.The questionnaire asks respondents about corporate culture, talent policy, innovation performance etc. This questionnaire was deployed in a large-scale survey that commenced in September 2021 in a world leading Internet company in China. This study will help us to examine the key factors that drive technological innovation and catch-up by world leading technology companies from developing countries.

EVENTS
The Inclusive Digital Model (IDMODEL) online conference
The IDMODEL online conference, organized by TMCD was held on 28th January 2021 with the theme ‘Digital Technologies and Platforms in the Covid-19 Era: Challenges and Prospects for Developing Countries’.
It was motivated by a desire to reflect on the various ways in which the Covid-19 pandemic caused changes to digital technology adoption and business models, as firms and countries struggled to cope with the challenges that it posed. The 6th Sino-UK Innovation and Development Forum
We are pleased to announce the 6th Sino-UK Innovation and Development Forum with the theme “Green innovation and inclusive development” (register). This event will be held virtually on Wednesday 3rd November and Thursday 4th November, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. London time (17:30 - 20:30 Beijing time) on both days.
The Forum will include the IDMODEL China High Level conference on Thursday, 4th November with the theme ‘Digital Innovation and Inclusive Development’. It will be hosted by TMCD together with five other organizations from the UK and China. Free registration  for the event is available here and you can learn more about previous Sino-UK forums here.
