Zhu Xiaodan expresses support for the University of Oxford to establish the International Research Institute of Innovation in Shenzhen

The governor of Guangdong Province, Zhu Xiaodan, carried out an in-depth consultation with relevant departments of the British government, social organisations, research institutes, universities and multinational corporations during his goodwill visit to the UK from 26-28 September. A general agreement has been established promoting comprehensive cooperation in the field of green low-carbon development between Guangdong Province and the United Kingdom.

During conversations with delegates from the University of Oxford, Zhu Xiaodan pledged full support for the University of Oxford to establish an International Research Institute of Innovation in Shenzhen.

Zhu Xiaodan emphasised that in order to establish the daily liaison mechanism a joint team should be set up as soon as possible. This joint effort will encourage more British hi-tech enterprises, advisory bodies and solution providers to collaborate in the increase of green low-carbon development in Guangdong and to substantially start the cooperation pilot on carbon capture and storage, carbon trading, energy performance contracting, and other aspects as the popularisation and application of energy saving technology. Various parties will work together to open a comprehensive cooperation dimension in the field of green low-carbon development.

On the same day, a joint declaration enhancing the cooperation of low-carbon development has been signed by Guangdong’s Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change. Representatives from both sides also signed a cooperative memorandum.
