TMCD supports efforts to contain the spread and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, TMCD has continued to support efforts in the UK and in countries where we conduct our research, to understand the impact of the pandemic. We have published a research series on the impact of the pandemic on Global Value Chainsthe role of digital technology in addressing the impact of the virus and the importance of international collaboration in addressing the pandemic. In addition to these, we have made donations to complement the efforts being made in these countries to contain the spread and impact of the Coronavirus.

In collaboration with the People's Government of Hunan Province, TMCD has donated medical equipment, including 11,000 face masks to researchers and medical workers of the UK National Health Service (NHS). Also, through our research partners in Ghana, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, we have donated 10,000 face masks to these countries.

Furthermore, TMCD Director, Prof Xiaolan Fu currently serves as President of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Alumni Association UK which has been supporting charities and fundraising efforts in the UK. The Association has sent a donation of £10,500 to the NHS to support the coronavirus relief efforts. The money, which will go to frontline workers and those affected by the pandemic, will be shared out via Imperial College (IC) Hospital Charity (£3,500) and Barts Charity (£7,000).

The Oxford University Hospitals acknowledging and commending the donations from TMCD said that they: ‘deeply appreciate the generous donation and support from TMCD’.
