TMCD Seminar: Huawei’s innovation and governance

The Technology and Management Centre for Development, Oxford Department of International Development, invites you to attend the first TMCD seminar of the year, which will explore the governance system of Huawei. Founded in 1987, Huawei quickly became one of the most successful multinational companies to emerge from China’s economic transformation. It is now the world’s largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer. Join us to understand the history and success of this company.

Mr. Jack Lyu

Topic:Making incentive mechanisms the perpetual motion machine for enterprise development

Mr Lyu is the Vice President of Huawei’s Human Resource Management Department and the Executive Secretary of Huawei’s Human Resources Committee. He provides critical support for the Human Resources Committee and helps with Human Resources strategy transformation, policy establishment, and implementation of decisions to unleash corporate vitality.

Mr. Tian Tao

Topic:The third road: an institutional experiment from a Chinese company 

Mr. Tao is an advisor of the Huawei International Advisory Council and Co-Director of the Ruihua Innovative Management Research Institute at Zhejiang University. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of Top Capital magazine, and the director of Hill Stone and Umassage. He started researching Huawei in 1999, and has published books on Huawei’s culture and history.

Prof. Xiaobo Wu

Topic:Non-linear growth

Mr. Wu is the Dean of School of Management, Director of National Institute for Innovation Management, and Director of Global Zhejiang Entrepreneur Research Center at Zhejiang University. He is also the Director of the Zhejiang University—Cambridge University Joint Research Center for Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management, and was formerly the Senior Vice President of International Council for Small Business.

Chair: Prof. Xiaolan Fu

Xiaolan Fu (傅晓岚) is the Founding Director of the Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD), Professor of Technology and International Development and Fellow of Green Templeton College. Her research interests include innovation, technology and industrialisation; trade, foreign direct investment and economic development; emerging Asian economies; innovation and productivity in UK/US.
